STEAM TIME!
WHAT IS STEAM?
SCIENCE * TECHNOLOGY * ENGINEERING * ART * MATH
01-20-17: Today we did a very fun and challenging FRACTION BREAK OUT activity! The students had to work in teams using the chrome books, what they know about fractions, and various critical thinking skills to navigate several different puzzles to get secret codes to unlock and BREAK OUT! The kids had a blast and did a fantastic job!
10-21-16: Today we had a great afternoon making candy corn catapults and launching candy corn to see whose went the furthest!!
10-14-16: This week we worked on our Noun hyperdocs and our Community slides!
10-07-16: Today we worked on our "What I love About My Community" slide in Google Slideshow.
09-30-16: Today we continued to work on DOT DAY. We....completed a virtual poster called PADLET to go with Dot Day, we listened to the story online, and mostly we got on to SCRATCH and explored coding with our own Dots!
09-23-16: DOT DAY!!
09-16-16: No STEAM TIME today...Mrs. Atkinson out
09-09-16: Today we worked in teams of 3 to create the tallest freestanding tower using only toothpicks and marshmallows. We used a hyperdoc of the Eiffel Tower as our inspiration. We had a couple speed bumps along the way (only use one hand, no voices) and discussed what worked well as well as our challenges. We then used Google slides on the Chrome Books to make our very own "Emojis."
09-02-16: Today was a blast! We worked with Mrs. Carroll/Russell's class on a fun team-building STEM activity. We worked in groups of four to "Save SAM." Sam is a worm that was in the ocean on a boat. His boat flipper over and his life jacket and oar are in the boat. He is on top of the boat. Students have to save Sam by flipping the boat and getting him safely in it with his life vest on his and his oar with him. The catch? Students MAY NOT touch their fingers on anything except for the paper clip we give them. If Sam falls in the "ocean" students must start over! We then went back to class and worked on a "Saving Sam" hyper doc where we voice-typed step-by-step instructions on how to successfully Save Sam!
8-26-16: Today we had fun working in groups with all hands on deck to make the tallest free-standing structure out of only 30 straws and some tape! We then worked on the chrome books and designed our avatar through androidify.
08-19-16: Today we cut up our photos to create our "Ish" selves!
08-12-16: Today was our first STEAM Day! The theme of today's STEAM Day was "Ish!" We read the book Ish and shared what made us all "ish." We then logged onto our Google accounts and Google classroom, where we completed our first Padlet (virtual post-it board): "What are you most excited for this school year?"
